There’s NOTHING easy about Divorce/Separation at anytime, but add the fact that we’re now faced with the Covid -19 pandemic and told to “stay home” which may mean together under the same roof, now what?
First, remember we’re all in this unprecedented state together, but there is a lot of support out there via phone calls, Skype, Zoom or other technology platforms, so reach out!
This is a great time to reach out to the relevant professionals to help in keeping you in the NOW/PRESENT, to stay GROUNDED and REALISTIC and hopefully more REASONABLE than ever before.
Take advantage of this time to get educated by talking to professionals. You can’t prepare for anything if you don’t know what you don’t know.
Get help in making up an interim plan while working towards the future goal, this will help to keep things as calm as possible and to set some healthy boundaries between you under very difficult circumstances.
Gain some direction on the financial documentation that you’ll need to start organizing and preparing, if you have some downtime right now use it to to your benefit.
Take a step back and understand that uncertainty is an understated word given the current state of the world today, so there’s absolutely NOTHING to gain by setting out to ruin one another financially or emotionally.
Lastly, if you have children, they’re watching and learning from everything you’re doing. It’s our job as parents to shape our kids into good, respectful, grounded human beings from our role modeling even during difficult times, so choose to spend time focusing on loving them over hating each other if you’re facing the demise of your marriage/significant relationship.
